ISBCA Kenya Travel Award - Support for young researchers

CABI, through the financial support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), is offering support of a total of USD 10,000 for early career researchers to attend the 7th International Symposium on Biological Control of Arthropods (ISBCA7), taking place from Monday, 26 October to Friday, 30 October 2026 in Nairobi, Kenya.

Award values for attendees to support travel to the meeting, registration and accommodation will vary as follows:

  • Up to USD 500 per awardee for attendees from national research institutions from the country where the meeting will take place (Kenya)
  • Up to USD 800 per awardee for attendees from national research institutions from low and lower-middle income countries in Africa (Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Dem. Rep. Congo, Rep. Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Arab Rep. Egypt, Eritrea, Eswatini, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, São Tomé and Príncipe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Fed. Rep. Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Yemen Rep., Zambia, and Zimbabwe)
  • Up to USD 1,200 per awardees for attendees from national research institutions from low and lower-middle income countries outside of Africa having to travel to Kenya

How to qualify:

 To be eligible for an award you must be:

  • 35 years old or less at the time of the meeting
  • Present on a topic of relevance to an ISBCA session
  • Talk or poster as first author accepted by ISBCA

How to apply:

To apply for an award, register on-line and submit your abstract. After finishing the registration process, please contact Heike Kuhlmann (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) and provide your contact details, evidence of age (e.g. passport scan), the abstract of your presentation, and a cover letter describing the travel and accommodation costs which you like to apply for reimbursement.

Notification:

The conference organizers will notify by return e-mail by 31 August 2026, if the applicant has been chosen to receive financial assistance and how much will be paid.

Reimbursement:

After the ISBCA7 has taken place, we will proceed with the reimbursement procedure. Reimbursement will be carried out only on provision of receipt(s): Please provide receipts (travel and accommodation tickets/backups as mentioned above), as well as your personal bank account details.
